The use of rescue dogs is an essential part of civil protection in the search for missing persons in forest areas or in the case of burials due to earthquakes, mountains, avalanches and mudslides, civil explosion damage (gas explosions) and, last but not least, the effects of war. The particularly sensitive sense of smell of our four-legged helpers is used here. For example, a trained area search dog can still smell people at a distance of about 500 m, even under unfavourable weather conditions. A rubble dog is able to smell buried people down to a depth of 5 metres. Especially complex, inner-city demolition projects with sometimes unmanageable spatial conditions on several above-ground and underground construction levels are highly interesting training areas for dogs and humans, if the demolition statics still allow it. We support rescue dog teams by creating opportunities as planners/construction managers in coordination with building owners and demolition contractors to conduct training sessions on our construction sites and thus maintain the operational capabilities of these important rescue forces.
