REDESIGN AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT SCHULAU HARBOUR

Project details

In 2009, the city of Wedel designated the redevelopment area "Stadthafen Wedel" (Wedel City Harbour) in connection with the development of the banks of the Elbe River as a "Maritime Mile". The focal points of the redevelopment are the conversion of the Schulau harbour and the upgrading of the harbour surroundings with the help of a large number of individual measures. The following are some of the measures that have been and are being carried out to redesign the harbour areas in Wedel:

  • the renewal of the harbour's overall appearance, including the widening of the harbour basin by around 30 m and the shortening of the harbour.
    by around 60 m,
  • the creation of a harbour gate square through partial filling of the existing harbour basin,
  • Reduction of sediment input and improvement of sill protection through the construction of a walkable transverse breakwater,
  • Development of the harbour environment by redesigning the adjacent open spaces, including the implementation of development measures,
  • Removal of soil and silt loads,
  • Preparation of harbour area for subsequent use.
